Centenary Year 2008
Update, November 2008
You
will all be aware that 2008 was the club’s centenary year. Such a
milestone is a special event for any organisation and the intent was for
it not to be an exception for LFCC. Your Committee had worked hard to
provide a programme of events befitting of the occasion. Unfortunately,
control of the weather was beyond our capabilities and the on field
celebrations were badly affected.
The
games that did progress provided good contests with memorable performances
in 2 of them. These came from 2 of our emerging stars with Matthew Walsh
achieving a century in the U15 representative game and Stuart Clarke
making 50 in the equivalent 2nd XI game. Well done to both of
them.
The
good news is that 2009 will now see the continuation of the centenary
celebrations.
Glamorgan
County
CC
have been approached to find a suitable date for their fixture and other
opponents have indicated a willingness to rearrange. News on these will be
released via our website as soon as firm news is available.

2008 is the club's centenary and there will be many
games for all ages in the club with representative games to be played
against all the leagues from U9 to seniors of the Welsh Club Cricket
Conference. There will also be an U15 six-a-side tournament when
neighbouring clubs will be invited to celebrate the centenary.
On August 17th the club will play against Glamorgan
and on the 24th of August there will be a game an International Rugby XI.
Some internationals are currently playing for the club ( Geraint Lewis,
Gareth Wyatt and Ceri Sweeney ) and in the past Dennis John, Greg
Prosser, Gethin Jenkins, Michael Owen and Matthew Back and the odd
Englishman Duncan Bell. All these will be invited to play as well as
Kevin Morgan and Rob Howley. Rob last year scored a century against our
seconds.

On the social side there will be a car rally,
summer ball, golf day and the annual dinner. The dinner will be held in
November and it is anticipated that the chief guest will be Sir Richard
Hadlee and the after dinner speaker Brian Voyle-Morgan. A night to look
forward to, to round off the celebrations.
Centenary caps, shirts, ties and car stickers will
be available with the club's crest included. A centenary booklet will
also be published including reminicences, statistics, photographs etc.
