Golf Day 2008

Although it has not been possible to play cricket because of the atrocious weather Llantwit Fardre Cricket Club managed to hold its annual golf day at Pontypridd Golf Club where more than 20 teams competed for a galaxy of fine prizes.

The format was a fourball modified stapleford team tournament with prizes for the first eight teams, nearest the pin on the four par three holes, nearest the water on the thirteenth and for twos on any hole. In addition there were two raffles, one for a digital television and another for many prizes including a DVD player and many bottles of wine and spirits.

The winners of the overall tournament were a police team from Neath who compete and do well every year (G Division B team). They won the first prize of four golf bags.

Second prize went to the Pikers (led by Neil Pike a Llantwit cricketer) Their prize was four rescue clubs.

Third prize went to Nigel Powell Scrap Metal including Greg Prosser. Their prize was four pairs of golf shoes.

Fourth was The Cannons (led by Scott Yoxall another Llantwit cricketer along with Ceri Sweeney and Phil Jones)-golf shirts

Fifth- Old Gents team (Derick Jones, Tony Real, Bryan Job and Alan Jones)-chipping nets

Sixth -Too Tall (Mark Rowley)-golf umbrellas

Seventh - The Untouchables- golf balls and socks.

Eighth- MAB Scaffolding- novelty golf balls

Nearest the pin awards went to Alan Goold,Chris Roberts, Eddie Geishiemer and Brian McNabb.

Nearest the water - Norman Williams

The television set was won by Alan Owen and the DVD by Derick Jones.

The two's competition winners were Josh, Eddie Geishiemer, Alan Goold, Dave Morris Phil Jones and Chris May
