The
opening day of the season in the First Division of the Thomas Carroll
Welsh Club Cricket Conference saw Llantwit Fardre playing away against
relegated Lisvane, at
Cardiff
University
’s Llanrumney playing fields.
Batting
first, Llantwit Fardre were grateful to Philip Jones who kept the
innings together with 55, after an early clatter of wickets.
Others chipping in with twenties and thirties ensured that the
innings finished on a reasonable 231 all out on what was a soggy opening
day track.
In
reply, Lisvane were bowled out for 129.
There was an impressive spell from Philip Jones again - taking a
wicket with his first ball on return to Llantwit action following his
sojourn in
Australia
- who ended with 4 for 24. Debutant
John Pickles chipped in with 3 for 30 and, just as impressively, started
his Llantwit career with a wicket from his very first delivery.
So
a positive start to the season with victory by 102 runs and, with the
rugby-playing fraternity yet to return to the fold, there is an upbeat
feel within the squad.
The
corresponding 2nd XI fixture was called off, due to the wet
ground conditions at
Central Park, Church
Village
.
