The
1st XI suffered its first reverse of the season at the
Diamond Ground in Whitchurch. A
mixture of recent injuries and the counter-attractions of
Cardiff
City
appearance in the FA Cup final meant that only 10 players took to the
field for the 1st XI. The
end-product from an under-strength team was a rather flaccid
performance, which did not really challenge a competent home outfit.
Batting
first, Llantwit Fardre were bowled out for 122.
This was well below par on a pitch which, though it moved around
early on after having been covered, was firm and dry by early season
standards. The only notable
resistance came from Scot Yoxall (40*) and John Pickles (25), as wickets
fell steadily throughout. In
their reply, Cardiff III batted comfortably to reach 124-3, with Andy
Inglis on 64* making a significant contribution.
The
result means that Llantwit are now third in league division one.
The
2nd XI fixture at home to Cardiff IV was called off, due to
wet ground conditions.
