Llantwit Fardre rounded off the first half of the
season with a hard fought win away at Whitchurch Heath whilst the
seconds lost at home against Whitchurch seconds.
Whitchurch Heath batted first and found runs hard
to come by against some fine Llantwit bowling. Youngsters Jordan
Sienawski (3-18) and Richard Lovering (2-24) were the pick of the
bowlers as Whitchurch finally totalled 141-7 in their allotted overs.
This was an excellent containing performance from Llantwit against
experienced campainers Hefin Jenkins (35) and Alan Pearce (24).
Llantwit also found scoring difficult and fell
behind the rate with only Chris Lloyd (49no) stemming the tide until he
was joined by Marcus Caudle (24no) and they formed a match winning stand
for the eighth wicket which took their side to victory with one over to
spare. An excellent rearguard action to bring success.
The second team at home fielded first and had
little success with Whitchurch reaching 180-3 with Dave Jones (74no) and
John Smees (48) getting most of the runs. In reply Llantwit totalled 130
all out with the only stand of note between James Guile (54) and Steve
Smith (23). For Whitchurch Tim Salmon (3-25), Mike Lay (2-17), Roger
Coombes (2-25) and John Smees (2-35) bowled well.
At the mid point of the season the first eleven are
mid table but the second team are bottom of their division.
