2nd XI

In the picturesque setting of the Llanarth village ground Llantwit won the toss and elected to bat. This did not look like a good decision early on as the first four wickets fell for only 61 runs from 17 overs. This brought Huw Thomas to the crease and he and Mike Maguire set about rebuilding the innings. With a more considered shot selection the run rate increased and with the opening pair of bowlers seen off the score raced on to 118 before Mike Maguire was out for 38.

With Huw Thomas now dominating the scoring he hit some mighty sixes and although wickets fell at regular intervals he was well supported until he was finally caught in the deep for an excellent 92. The Llantwit innings finally closing on 212 for 9 from their 45 overs.

The best bowling figures for Llanarth was the opening bowler D. Griffiths 8-0-22-3.

Llanarth`s reply was steady and Llantwit`s cause was not helped when Steve Smith pulled up with a muscle injury after completing only 2 overs. This however introduce Ross Williams to the bowling and he took the first wicket to fall in his second over with the total on 27. Llanarth`s batsmen however began to set about the total at a steady pace and after a stand of 55 Ross Williams took his second wicket with an excellent slower delivery with the total on 92, K. Spencer going for 44. In his next over Ross then proceeded to take his third wicket with the last ball of his spell to finish with excellent figures of 10-3-30-3.

This introduced the spin of Scott Williams to partner the pace of Huw Thomas, they proceeded to stifle the home batsmen and the wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Huw Thomas clean bowling the next batsman with the score on 121. With the run rate increasing the batsmen began to take chances and D. Griffiths was out top scoring with 52, to an excellent catch in the deep by Huw Thomas off the bowling of Scott Williams.

With the bowlers now on top and wickets falling at regular intervals the Llanarth innings closed on 167 for 8 from their 45 overs.

Best bowling figures for Llantwit was Ross Williams 10-3-30-3, Scott Williams 10-0-31-3 and Huw Thomas 10-0-33-2, a good all round performance and a well deserved victory.
