A home fixture on a fine summer’s afternoon, and all-in-all a reasonable performance from the team at Central Park. Cefn Forest had yet to win in this division, and fielded a rather young team which batted first. There was some decent bowling and a few sharp catches taken, aided by poor shot selection from Cefn Forest’s youngsters, and two suicidal run outs that showed their inexperience. Scott Williams (4-34) and Rhys Dummett (2-17) benefitted most in an innings of 118 that lasted barely 30 overs.
The reply from Llantwit seemed fairly untroubled as 104-2 was reached without great ceremony. However, the soft underbelly shown by the team during crucial phases of matches this summer once more exposed itself, and the winning target was eventually reached with 7 wickets down. Before this near implosion, Paul Castellini brandished his monster for a bludgeoned 32, and Stephen Thomas showed unfluent stickability for 28: but extras of 36 were the home side’s best friend, and the winning run was indeed a wide.
Off the bottom of the table as a result of this win, Llantwit Fardre must ensure that they are not in one of the relegation places when the season’s final match takes place – the return fixture away at Cefn Forest. We have too much talent and pride for that, surely…
